Routine dental checkups and teeth cleaning can be detailed as dental recare and dental deep scaling / root planning.
A regular dental checkup is one of the most important things you can do for your dental health, next to brushing and flossing. Everyone needs to have dental checkups. This is be because even if you brush and floss every day, you cannot see all the parts of your own mouth.
During a dental recare appointment, we will take a few necessary cavity-detecting x-rays of your teeth, and through the examination, Dr. Zheng will be able to see the following things that you won’t be ab...

Periodontal disease is an ongoing, degenerative infection of the teeth, gums and surrounding bone. It begins when plaque, the sticky film of the food and bacteria builds up. If the plaque is not removed, it hardens into tartar. The buildup of plaque and tartar dramatically increases the number of harmful bacteria in your mouth, and can result in deepening spaces between the tooth and gum (called pockets). The bacteria also trigger your body’s immune system to produce enzymes that destroy the bone around your teeth, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss.
The symptoms of periodontal disea...

There are many possible causes for toothaches and/or broken tooth.
Without being able to see the condition that the tooth is in, it will be very difficult to diagnose what exactly may be causing the pain. Sometime, pain can be also misleading; the area where pain is sensed is not necessarily the area that is the cause.
If you have toothache and/or broken tooth, please call our office, and we will see you as soon as possible to relieve your pain and treat your broken tooth.

Fillings are commonly used in restorations involving cavities or decayed teeth. There are two types, Amalgam, which is more familiarly known as the silver colored filling, and white fillings.
Amalgam (Silver color) fillings
Silver amalgam has been used as restorative material for decades and has proven to be very strong. It is most commonly used for restorations in back teeth so as not to be as visible. Some disadvantages to be aware of are that amalgam fillings expand and contract with heat and the cold, and this can eventually cause the fillings to fracture your tooth. Since the mater...

Most decayed teeth can be treated successfully with a filling or crown. But for these treatments to work, there must be enough healthy tooth structure above the jawbone to support the restoration.
When a tooth is severely decayed or the root of a tooth is fractured and cannot be saved, an extraction may be the best choice to relieve pain and prevent the spread of infection to surrounding teeth.
To perform an extraction, Dr. Zheng will apply local anesthesia, after sound anesthesia achieved, the tooth will be removed as less trauma as possible.
After an extraction, it is important that...

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is made from metal called titanium or an alloy of it. It can be placed into jawbone in a minor and relatively painless surgical procedure. The procedure involves three steps. First, a small metal root is surgically placed beneath the gum into the jawbone to serve as anchor for the post that will eventually support the permanent replacement tooth. The procedure is often performed under local anesthesia in the dental office. The healing process can take eight to twelve weeks to complete. Once the jawbone has firmly healed around the implant, an a...

A root canal is performed in order to save your tooth as opposed to extract it. Underneath your tooth’s outer enamel and within the dentin is an area of soft tissue called the pulp which contains nerves, veins and arteries. When the pulp becomes damaged or infected, it becomes vulnerable to infection from the bacteria normally present in your mouth. Root canal treatment removes the infected tissue which, in the pulp chamber, cannot heal on its own. If untreated, the infection will worsen, become more painful, and cause other health problems.
Without treatment, the infection will spread,...

A bright smile really makes a big difference to your face and those important first impressions. While general care and attention to your teeth can help keep them their natural (a light gray-yellow) color, aging and surface stains from food and beverages such as coffee, colas, tea, red wine or berries can darken their appearance. With this in mind, there are several whitening options available to you.
In office whitening
This procedure takes approximately an hour. A bleaching agent is applied to your teeth and the high intensity lights enhance the whitening process. Before whit...

Crowns
A crown, sometimes called a “cap” is a tooth-like cover that fits over a carefully prepared existing tooth that has been damaged by decay, broken, badly stained or mis-shaped. It is generally used to provide a surface over your natural tooth to protect and strengthen it. Crowns are versatile in that they can also help correct cosmetic problems.
There are many kinds of crowns, including those made of gold, porcelain boned to metal or porcelain.

Bonding
Bonding is a treatment that can be used to repair teeth that are decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored or to reduce gaps between teeth.
For this procedure, Dr. Zheng will use tooth colored composite resin material — a type of plastic. Several layers of resin are applied to each tooth, and each layer is hardened under a LED curling light. Final steps include shaping and polishing the resin material so the finished tooth looks natural and smooth.
Bonding can also be used to build up older teeth to make them appear younger. Bonding is an option for people of all ages, includ...

Dental lasers help us treat conditions in the mouth using light energy. There are different kinds of dental lasers, and we can use laser on soft tissues like gums.
There are many benefits of using lasers:
They are much quieter than a dental drill, with no whining or vibration.
They are very precise, so there is minimal impact on oral tissues.
They’re gentle and generally painless, so they often require little or no anesthesia.
They can minimize bleeding and swelling, and speed the healing of gum tissues.
They reduce the risk of infection by decontaminating the affected areas.

A removable or partial denture replaces all lost teeth in the arch. By clasping the remaining adjacent teeth, the denture is held in place. Where none of the natural teeth remain, a complete denture is required. In the case of a complete upper denture, suction helps hold it in place.
It’s important that your dentures, like natural teeth, be kept free from plaque and tartar. This prevents permanent staining and bad breath. Use a denture brush and one of the many commercial cleaning products to thoroughly clean all of the surfaces of your dentures at least once a day.
Whenever the dentur...
